Yu is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society and the Mid-American Orthopaedic Association, among others. Yu completed his fellowship training in orthopedic spine surgery at Norton Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky. A novelist and television writer, Yu won a 2020 National Book Award for Interior Chinatown, a satirical story about the intersection of Hollywood and Asian. His fiction has been published in a number of magazines and literary journals.
